ELC News from Preschool...
Mrs. Wright’s preschool
class spent a week learning about trains (electric, steam, and
diesel). Mr. Finley, our custodian, brought in some of his
own model trains and a small steam boat for the class to explore.
Later in the week the students watched a video of trains, played
with a toy train track, and listened to the many sounds a train
makes. Also during the week, the students built their very own
train out of cardboard boxes and scooters. Mr. Finley and Mr.
Hamlet, another building custodian, were so kind to pull the
students around the school as they handed out bubble gym to the
kindergartners and first graders.
ELC News from Kindergarten...
Mrs. Martin and Mrs. White’s kindergarten
classes learned about fairy tales by participating in several very
interactive activities this year. The activities included reading
aloud, story comparisons, and a project the students were to
complete at home. Home projects consisted of students choosing a
main fairy tale character and creating a diorama, a time line of
events, or drawings, basically anything that would depict the fairy
tale they chose. Presentations were done and parents were invited to
join in the fun in our media center. Cake and punch was served and
all of the student’s projects were displayed for the parents to see.

First Grader Wins Award
One of the ELC’s

along with the other winning recipients. The affair was held at the
Mandalay

Along with the

family members were present at the breakfast which was emceed by
Marsha Bonhart from WDTN Channel 2. Congratulations

ELC News from First Grade...
As a part of a Writing and Social Studies
assignment, Mrs. Cooper’s class read a book called FLAT STANLEY by
Jeff Brown. The book is about a young boy named Stanley, who
is accidentally squished as “flat as a pancake” when a bulletin
board falls on him. The story goes on to tell how Stanley
discovers some real adventures to being flat. He can slide
under doors, go down into sidewalk grates, and even fold himself up
small enough to fit into an envelope and be mailed to California for
an exciting vacation.
Our students sent their own FLAT Stanley’s to a
‘host family’ prior to Winter Break, with the anticipation of
learning about the city/state as well as reading about the exciting
things their “FLAT Stanley” did on his trip.
By the end of January, several FLAT Stanley’s returned with
letters and pictures from New Mexico, Pennsylvania, New York, Texas,
Washington, Missouri and Ohio. Next year, FLAT Stanley might
be visiting the White House!
