Superintendent of Schools
A Note from
Dr. Draffen
Dear Parents and Community Members:
Welcome to the 2009-10 school
year! The excitement of
a new school year never seems to wane, bringing with it the
anticipation
of reuniting with old friends, meeting new friends and new teachers,
and breaking in brand new notebooks, pencils, and backpacks.
The teachers, support staff, and administration of Trotwood-Madison
City Schools understand you have entrusted to us the most precious
part of your lives—your children—and we stand ready to teach,
support, nurture, and assist them so that their school experience is
positive, rewarding, and beneficial to their academic and social
growth.
We are partners in this important endeavor of education. We
encourage you to be involved by attending Open House, meeting your
child’s teacher, attending PTO meetings, logging on to “Progress
Book” to monitor your child’s progress in his or her class work,
attending Parent-Teacher conferences, and assuring your child is at
school and on time each day.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children; I look
forward to a successful and rewarding school year.

A Note from
Dr. Wagner
The newspaper headlines are full of news regarding
President Obama’s Economic Stimulus Package and Governor
Strickland’s proposal for changes to the educational programs in
Ohio. Each day the details change leaving all of us wondering what
this means for Trotwood-Madison City Schools and our children. At
this point, there are few certainties, but we will
share with you what we know so far:
1. It appears the School District will get no new
money for general operations. In fact, the latest information shows
a decrease in state foundation funding of 2% next year.
2. Money that may come from the federal stimulus
package will be restricted in use. Right now the money is earmarked
for the education of children with disabilities and for Title I
funding for additional academic support to the current program. The
District will not be allowed to spend this money on operating
expenses such as salaries, electricity, gasoline, etc.
3. The District Administration is preparing to
recommend reductions to the Board of Education for next school year.
4. The Board of Education is considering putting an
operating levy on the ballot so that further cuts to the educational
program can be minimized. The exact millage has yet to be
determined.
We respectfully ask for your support of our students
and their academic program. We commit to you that we will continue
to be good stewards of your tax dollars. Education is the key to our
students’ success later in life, and as a community, we must assure
that they have the educational opportunities necessary for them to
be accepted into college, secure employment, and become productive
citizens.

Five New Buildings!
In 2001, the citizens of this community made a commitment to
construct new K-12 facilities to serve the young people of
Trotwood. Our three new Elementary School buildings, Middle School,
and High School are now open and represent the dreams and hard work
of countless individuals spanning many years.
From the beginning, the project was guided by the desire to
design and construct buildings that will serve the educational needs
of our students and community. These new school buildings are the
result of shared vision, teamwork, serious dedication, and
involvement. Please take a few moments to tour these beautiful
facilities.
We are confident you will be pleased and excited about the
educational opportunities that these new buildings promise. To
have our students realize their potential and excel in their
academic endeavors is a goal worthy of our collective planning,
creativity, and labor.
You are our valued customer. Please become involved in your
child's education - together we can!
Thank you for your support of our school system.
