Individividuals With Disabilities Act (IDEA)
The Ohio Department of Education soon will make changes
in the way it monitors, enforces and publicizes Ohio school districts’
compliance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act,
which ensures a free, appropriate public education to students with
disabilities. The actions result from the partial settlement of a class
action lawsuit. For details, read the legal
consent order and
related public notice.
Child Find/Public Participation
Child Find is the process of identifying, locating, and
evaluating children with disabilities who may be in need of special
education and related services. All children are entitled to an education,
regardless of the severity of their disability. In compliance with the
Federal and State laws, the Trotwood-Madison City School District offers a
number of services for students with disabilities, many of which are
incorporated into the regular education program.
Parents, relatives, public, and private agency
employees, and concerned citizens are used to help school districts find any
child, age birth-21, who may have a disability and have need of special
education and related services. Please help us locate children with special
needs who are not receiving an education. For more information call (937)
854-3050 Ext. 240.
The Trotwood-Madison City Schools prepares annual IDEA
and preschool disabilities applications and seeks input and suggestions from
members of the community as part of this process. Idea-B is a federal
entitlement program which provides funding for the education of students
with disabilities. The preschool disabilities grant provides federal
funds for the education of children with disabilities ages 3-5. If you
have any suggestions or input, please contact the Director of Pupil
Personnel at 854-3050 Ext. 240 or complete an input form, available in Pupil
Personnel at the Trotwood-Madison Board of Education, 444 South Broadway,
Trotwood, Ohio 45426.
